I recently got my SSDI and am wondering if i will need to get medicare since the VA covers my needs?

Also to chime in here, if you live overseas (as I do) and intend to stay overseas for the rest of your life then paying for Part B would be foolish since you can't use it overseas.

The operative word is "may" in that ".. VA may reimburse...". Without medicare Part B, you are counting on the VA to accept that your ER visits were true medical emergencies and cover the charges....

Even if you have a legitimate emergency and use a non-VA facility, then admitted to that hospital even though you contacted the VA within the prescribed time, the VA will not pay for the ER emergency....
